PORT KLANG, Sept 10 — The National Registration Department (NRD) disclosed that 365 foreigners were charged in court over MyKad and birth certificate fraud between January and August this year.

Enforcement director Mazhad Abdul Aziz said 738 joint operations were conducted with various agencies nationwide, including raids on premises and factories to detect the use of fraudulent identification documents.

“Of that number, 286 cases involved the use of fake identity cards or cards belonging to others, while another 79 were linked to forged birth certificates.

“Most of those arrested were Indonesian and Filipino nationals,” he told reporters after leading Ops Layar at a printing factory in Bandar Sultan Suleiman here last night.

Mazhad added that the prosecutions were carried out under the National Registration Regulations 1990 and the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1957 (Act 299).

“We will continue to mount integrated and targeted enforcement operations to crack down on such activities,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, he said Ops Layar, which ran for four hours starting at 5.00 pm, involved 52 NRD personnel from Putrajaya, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, as well as 15 officers from the Malaysian Immigration Department in Putrajaya and the Selangor Department of Labour.

“A total of 195 individuals were inspected, including 63 locals who were found to possess valid identity cards.

“Three women, aged between 21 and 37, believed to be Indonesian nationals, were detained on suspicion of using counterfeit identity cards or cards belonging to others to secure employment at the factory,” he said. — Bernama
