Kota Kinabalu: Fire victims in three villages in Numbak, here, are allowed to rebuild their houses, said Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.
He said City Hall (DBKK), together with the State Government, was now reorganising the area to ensure that houses could be rebuilt according to properly arranged plots.
“This area was actually a resettlement site for those who were relocated from the Royal Malaysian Navy area previously. So, it is actually a place where they are allowed to settle.
“What the DBKK is currently doing together with the State Government is to ensure that only those who are genuinely eligible are allowed to stay there and rebuild their homes on properly arranged plots,” he told reporters after Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman visited the fire victims at the Damai Multipurpose Hall, here, Wednesday.
Sabin said the DBKK was making preparations, including conducting inspections and measurements, to prevent disputes over the plots.
“Now we are making preparations. We have conducted inspections and are also taking steps to carry out measurements so that the site does not become a subject of dispute.
“We will look at the list of those affected by the fire and the names of those who were supposed to occupy the area previously. We are aware that there are also individuals from outside the area who entered the site and built their houses without permission from DBKK,” he added.
Earlier, Tun Musa presented cash and goods to 110 heads of households (KIR) affected by the fire.
On Aug 30, a fire at Kampung Numbak destroyed about 200 stilt houses, with three victims found burned to death.
