KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar had initially sought to resign as PKR deputy president but was instead asked to take a temporary break from the post, said PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the party’s central leadership council had decided to reject her resignation request and allow her to take a break from her duties after the party’s congress next week.
He also said Nurul Izzah had requested time, among other things, to pursue and complete her PhD studies.
“Initially, she wanted to resign, but after discussions, the party decided to give her a break instead.
“Therefore, we are giving her time. Her duties and responsibilities as deputy president will be carried out by vice-president Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution.
“The work will continue and will not be affected,” he told reporters after launching the Kuala Lumpur-level Safe Internet Parent-Teacher Association Convention here today.
Fahmi added that Nurul Izzah would remain a PKR member and continue to contribute to the party.
“Nurul Izzah will remain a member of the party and will continue to assist the party,” he said.
