Nxled downs Ho Chi Minh City to keep finals bid alive

MANILA, Philippines — Nxled prevailed over Ho Chi Minh City, 25-20, 31-33, 25-17, 25-22, to keep its finals bid alive in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

The win gave Nxled a 2-2 record, tied with PLDT, while Ho Chi Minh City dropped to 1-3, tied with Farm Fresh.

Jonah Sabete-Escamillan made a triple-double performance of 18 points, 15 excellent digs, and 20 excellent receptions for the Chameleons.

Nxled’s playmaker Gel Cayuna orchestrated 35 excellent sets that allow Myla Pablo, MJ Phillips and Jacq Acuña to score 18, 17 and 12 points, respectively.

With one game to go against Farm Fresh, Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti is hoping the team can make the finals.

“I don’t know if we are out mathematically in the finals; we decided to not rely on this, but we know that there’s a long fight on this. We’re preparing for the next teams who are trying to beat us, so that’s what we’re focusing on,” Guidetti said.

The Vietnamese team was led by Thi Kim Thanh Dang, who made 15 points, while Thi Bich Diep and Thi Nhung Dao scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
