Less than a month ago, Nga Kor Ming said that he would resign as a minister if BN won handsomely in Johor.
BN did win handsomely in Johor, and Nga Kor Ming, as expected, still has not resigned.
Instead, he has just thickened his skin and come out with a long excuse as to why he should not be expected to resign.
But unfortunately for Akmal, his glee over Nga's misfortune has dug up his own past, where he promised to resign as a Melaka Exco but, in the end, did not keep his word.
To explain himself, Akmal is claiming that he did submit his letter of resignation, but he could not go through with his resignation because the Melaka governor did not accept his resignation.
In a video on social media last night, Akmal said he had submitted his resignation on Jan 19 and sent letters to Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh and His Excellency (TYT) the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka Mohd Ali Rustam.
'But it was not consented to by TYT, so under the Melaka State Constitution, if it is not consented to by TYT, what can you do?' he said.
I don't know about you, but I find Akmal's explanation to be insulting to one's intelligence.
In our country, even kings can abdicate and peons can resign—but according to Akmal, he could not leave his Exco post even though he wanted to, because other people were not letting him?
I didn't know slavery was still legal in our country.
Akmal is serving in the Goverment, not a mafia family. We can understand why a person who serves in the La Costa Nostra can't leave the life, but if you work for the government, if you give a month's notice, you can resign from any job la, even that of the Prime Minister.
After saying that, Akmal even had the gall to claim that he did not go through with his resignation because, unlike DAP, he knows how to respect a royal titah.
He didn't go through with his word, but instead of apologizing for his weakness, he is parading it like it is a sign of his virtue .
Haih.
Panjang cerita kau ni, Akmal. Hanya Nga Kor Ming sahaja yang boleh menandingi kebolehan kamu bercerita panjang.
Listening to Akmal made me realise why both Akmal and Nga have such a long history of quarrelling with each other.
As Aristotle observed, "Potter to potter and builder to builder begrudge their reward."
Maybe Akmal and Nga only begrudge each other because they remind each other of themselves, just as one potter reminds another potter of themselves .
Anyway, enough with these two "brothers from a different mother" lah.
Personally, I suspect that that we are only interested in what Akmal and Nga are up to, the more we feel hopeless and frustrated about our country.
I think it is the case , because just writing this post about them has probably doubled the hopelessness and frustration that I feel about the state and future of our country.
It is the curse of our nation that we live in a time when the antics of politicians like them receive so much public attention.
I think if Akmal and Nga serve any function to our nation, it is that their popularity is an indicator of the nation's condition.
As long as they remain popular, it means the nation is mired in hopelessness, chaos and frustration.
We can only be sure that the nation is no longer in a state or chaos, frustration and hopelessness, when their antics no longer attract public attention.
I can't wait for that day to come 🤦.
