Less than a month ago, Nga Kor Ming said he would resign from his job if BN won handsomely in Johor.
Last week, BN did win handsomely in Johor. But, as expected, Nga Kor Ming did not submit his resignation letter.
When asked why, as expected, Nga Kor Ming had a long list of excuses. According to him, we had misunderstood what he said, we had not read his statement properly, there was more than one condition attached to his promise., and on and on he went . ...
Listening to Nga, I could only think of one thing.
If you deal with intelligent people who have integrity, even the most difficult matters can be resolved simply and explained clearly.
If you deal with incompetent people who are more interested in saving themselves than keeping their word, on the other hand, even the simplest things will fail to be accomplished, but the explanation for the failure will be never-ending.
Resigning from a job is actually a very simple process. All you have to do is just inform people that you are going to leave and then leave. People who never went to school and can't read and write can do it without a fuss. But when it involves Nga Kor Ming, then it will become so complicated, that even the future generation living a 1000 years from now might not be able to pull it off.
If you thought Nga and his drama were the only things we had to deal with in Mad Madani Malaysia, hold that thought.
Right after Nga refused to resign, his political rival, Akmal Saleh, would come out to mock him for failing to keep his word.
What Akmal did however, was an astonishing act of self-sabotage because, just six or seven months earlier, Akmal himself had failed to resign from his post as a Melaka Exco after publicly declaring that he would.
When this was pointed out to him, Akmal came up with perhaps the most bizarre explanation imaginable.
According to him, he had indeed submitted his resignation letter. However, because the Melaka Chief Minister and the Governor refused to accept it, he had no choice but to remain in office.
I never knew you had to become a slave to work for the government.
As far as I know, only slaves cannot resign from their jobs until their masters let them go.
By Akmal's explanation, you either have to be a slave to work for the government, or the government itself is some kind of Mafia organisation, which you can join whenever you like, but you can never leave.
If you thought it was only Nga and Akmal making resignation sound far more complicated than it really is, wait—we are still not done.
A couple of days ago, four DAP Melaka assemblymen left the state government to become part of the opposition.
Two of them were members of the Melaka Exco, two were deputy Exco members, and one also served as Deputy Speaker.
On the very same day they resigned, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would bizarrely ask them to reconsider their resignation and take back their positions. He said that whatever problems they had with the Umno-led Melaka government, he would speak to the Chief Minister and sort things out.
I suppose that, in Anwar's world, if you submit your resignation to your boss in the morning, you can simply walk back to their office in the evening, say you've changed your mind, and ask for your resignation letter back.
Go figure.
But if you think that's all, hold on—there's more.
In response to Anwar's offer to speak to the Melaka Chief Minister, do you know what the Chief Minister said?
He said there was nothing left to discuss because he had already received the resignation letters from the DAP assemblymen.
Now, this is the very same Chief Minister who, according to Akmal, had forced him to remain an Exco member by refusing to accept his resignation letter.
So here's the obvious question.
If the Chief Minister could reject Akmal's resignation after receiving Akmal's resignation letter, why couldn't he reject the resignations of the DAP Exco members and deputy Exco members as well?
But here is the thing: what's the point of asking?
By now, it should be obvious to all of us that even Einstein, who could understand mysteries of the universe, would never be able to understand how one is supposed to resign from a job in our country.
Now before I finish, I shall leave you with a quote by Einstein to make sense of all of this.
"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
Whenever you see less intelligent people doing not very intelligent things, you might be tempted to make sense of it.
But from my experience, I would seriously caution you from taking that line of action.
You see, when you see low intelligence people doing stupid things, it will only appear stupid to you in the beginning. The more you investigate it, the more it will not look stupid to you anymore.
When it doesn't look stupid anymore, it doesn't mean that you have gotten to the bottom of the matter.
No.
What it more likely means is that in trying to understand the stupidity, you have succeeded in becoming stupid yourself.
Once you are on the path to become stupid, there is no telling when you will be able to turn things around.
Remember, As Einstein said, the depth of human stupidity is endless.
