
Kota Kinabalu: Two Pakistanis were fined RM12,000 in default 12 months’ jail each for overstaying in the State, respectively.
Abdullah and Shah Khalid pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge against them, on Tuesday.
Abdullah was detained at 4pm on Feb 11 this year at a shop in Kota Belud and his Special Pass had expired on March 23, 23 and overstayed in the State for a year and 10 months.
Meanwhile, Shah was arrested on the same day at 3.52pm at a mini market in Kudat after his Social Visit pass had expired on Jan 25, 2023 and stayed in the State for two years and two weeks.
The offence under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 carries a fine of at least RM10,000, or a jail term of up to five years, or both, on conviction.
Abdullah paid the fine while Shah failed to pay.
After serving or paying the fine, the Pakistanis were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
Prosecuting officer Gressia Yoland Ismail Uvaraj from the Immigration Department, appeared for the prosecution.
