FILIPINO boxers Carlo Paalam, Eumir Marcial and Aira Villegas have taken to social media to share how they are preparing for the 20th Asian Games slated in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 this year.
Paalam, a 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, posted a photo of himself preparing for his upcoming bout.
“Lord, it’s all up to you; I will do all the work,” he wrote while training at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) boxing gym in Malate, Manila.
The 28-year-old boxer also bagged the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games and competed in the 2022 edition when he lost in the quarterfinal round.
Marcial, 30, is a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. He is currently in Japan, where he trains as a professional boxer.
The middleweight boxer has five Southeast Asian Games gold medals and aims to secure his first ever Asian Games gold this year after having previously claimed a silver in 2022 and a bronze in 2018.
Villegas, 30, is also an Olympic bronze medalist but has not won a medal in the Asian Games although she competed in the 2022 edition.
She is also training hard for her Asian Games quest in September, posting a video of her well-conditioned body.
Villegas is listed in the 51 kilogram category, while Paalam and Marcial are listed in men’s 55kg and 80kg divisions.
The last time the Philippines won a gold medal in boxing at the Asian Games was in 2010 when Rey Saludar defeated Chang Yong of host China in the flyweight category.
