MANILA, Philippines — To haunt Floyd Mayweather Jr. by blemishing his pristine 50-0 record.
That is Manny Pacquiao's mission as he faces Mayweather in a welterweight rematch at the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 19 (September 20 in Manila).
"I want Floyd to be forever haunted by the loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him," said Pacquiao in a promotional graphic produced by Netflix Tuesday.
On the same day, Netflix announced it will livestream the mega fight between the Filipino boxing legend and the undefeated American globally.
Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision in their first encounter dubbed as "Fight of the Century" back in May 2015.
Talks for a rematch had been made since then but to no avail.
Eleven years since their gigantic clash, both sides somehow came to an agreement to forge the rematch albeit Mayweather is already 49 and Pacquiao 47.
"It just happened that I'm still active in boxing and he came out of retirement so he decided to do it again so I'm excited for the fight," said Pacquiao in an interview with ESPN's Sports Center.
"I learned a lot from that fight. I think compared to 2015, we become mature right now and know how to handle it. I hope that it will not happen again, the way it did last 2015."
Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) retired in 2021 after falling to Yordenis Ugas but came back last July and battled Mario Barrios to a draw.
The world's only 8-division champ will face former world champ Ruslan Provodnikov on April 18 in Las Vegas in an exhibition before taking on Mayweather anew.
Announcing his own unretirement last weekend, Mayweather (27 KOs) will also have one more exhibition bout before his return to professional scene, taking on former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson on April 25.
"The experience in 2015 was not really one hundred percent but I'm hoping this time around no more excuses especially to my condition and also for everything," said Pacquiao in the same Sports Center interview.
"I'm so excited and ready for the fight although before he wanted to do an exhibition with me (before) but I disagreed, I want a real fight like this so this is it, this is what I'm waiting for."
