Padilla’s counter-affidavit not yet logged in system — Ombudsman

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman on Monday said the counter-affidavit supposedly submitted by Senator Robin Padilla in response to the obstruction of justice complaint filed against him, has yet to appear in the agency’s system.

Padilla is being charged for supposedly aiding Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa escape authorities after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest order for being an alleged co-accused in former president Rodrigo Duterte’s crimes against humanity case.

“He has presented a counter-affidavit, which he claims is original, although it does not reflect our system. And the time to file a counter-affidavit has already lapsed,” Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said in Filipino and English in a briefing.

Padilla presented the document during Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial on Monday

“We will rely on what our system says and we’ll take it from there. As of right now, only Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s counter-affidavit is reflected in our system,” Clavano said.
