Palace hits back at VP Sara over 'attention seeker' remarks

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Friday hit back at Vice President Sara Duterte after she criticized the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s handling of unemployment and the economy.

Speaking to reporters in Cebu, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Duterte appeared "behind" on current events and government programs.

"Maybe she talks that way because she is too behind," Castro said. "The brain operates on a use it or lose it principle."

Earlier, Duterte criticized Castro for what she described as a "papansin" attitude, which she said has brought “embarrassment” to the Philippines.

In response, Castro said that Duterte’s comment may have stemmed from her lack of familiarity with digital tools.

"We are not attention-seeking. We are only answering questions coming from the media," Castro said.

"Like that, she mentioned me, so I have to respond, right?" she added.
