MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Thursday said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not abandoned the idea of a comprehensive national flood control master plan.
This comes following the House Committee on Appropriations hearing, where Akbayan Representative Chel Diokno pointed out the lack of a single, unified national master plan for flood control, which Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed.
In a press briefing, Castro said that the current shift toward river basin planning stems from the need to align engineering solutions with the country’s actual topography and geographic layout.
“We need to see what the effect will be of using a major river basin plan instead of a major master plan. So let's see because we are also looking at the path and the topography of our country where it is better,” Castro said in Filipino.
She added that the previous administration's master plans were either left unaccepted or remained unimplemented.
