MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday defended the appointment of Zofia Canlas as commissioner of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) amid online backlash.
During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Canlas was not new to the agency and has been serving the PCUP for years.
She added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not look at the background of his appointees, noting that as long as the person has the “heart to serve,” they are qualified to work for his administration.
Canlas, who graduated from De la Salle University in 2024, was hit on social media for her alleged foreign trips.
