SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 - The success of the Selangor Para SUKMA contingent should serve as a catalyst to continue uncovering para-athlete talent and strengthen the development of para sports in the state.
Selangor Para SUKMA contingent chief Lim Yi Wei said preparations with the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) had displayed a good sports development model that should be continued to ensure para athletes receive continuous training and support.
“With a model like this, we can continue sports development while at the same time training the skills of volunteers involved in SUKMA and Para SUKMA.
“This not only inspires and motivates athletes, but also helps to build a stronger sports ecosystem in Selangor,” she said at a press conference on the achievements of Para SUKMA athletes at Dewan Raja Musa, Selangor State Youth and Cultural Complex here today.
She said the hosting of Para SUKMA also provided greater opportunities to discover and develop new talent among para athletes, while raising attention towards para-sports development.
Lim added that the experience and achievement gained through the Games should be used as a foundation to expand the development of para athletes, particularly in terms of training, talent development and community support.
She said Para SUKMA should also be highlighted as one of the sports development models capable of increasing the participation of para athletes and strengthening the para-sports ecosystem in Malaysia.
“Continued cooperation between MSNS, athletes, coaches, volunteers, sports associations and all stakeholders is important to ensure the momentum of para-sports development in Selangor can be maintained,” she added.
