KOTA BHARU — Pas has proposed for Parliament to be dissolved to allow the people to give a fresh mandate to a new administration, following claims that the Madani Government is in turmoil.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man claimed that parties within the government, particularly Pakatan Harapan (PH), were openly attacking Barisan Nasional (BN) despite currently being in cooperation with the coalition government.
“The situation is now out in the open and is no longer a secret. Usually, such matters within a party would not be made public, but because of the criticism, the situation has become very serious and is no longer under control, with each side attacking one another,” he said during a press conference at the 72nd Pas Muktamar at Pusat Tarbiah Islam Kelantan (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa, here, on Friday.
Tuan Ibrahim said the situation should not be allowed to continue as political stability needed to be restored through a fresh mandate from the people.
“My view is simple. For the sake of stability, dissolve Parliament and give the people a mandate to make a new choice.
“In the previous election, the people did not choose a single party, but a coalition. That coalition was not something the people specifically wanted, but was formed out of necessity to establish the Federal Government,” he said.
In a related development, Tuan Ibrahim described attacks against Umno by component parties in the government, including PKR and DAP, as inappropriate in the context of political cooperation.
He said Umno had a larger number of seats and other parties should not treat the party in such a manner.
“Umno is much larger than these parties and they should not act in such a way because Umno has more seats and they are benefiting from Umno’s existing strength.
“In political cooperation, we normally respect one another and the actions of component parties, including PKR and DAP, have made Umno and its members uncomfortable,” he said.
