PAS has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will continue as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), clarifying that no final decision has been made on the coalition’s top leadership position as of January 23, 2026.

Addressing speculation surrounding PN’s leadership, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party had yet to receive any formal invitation from the coalition to convene discussions on appointing a new chairman. He explained that without an official meeting or proposal, PAS could not have endorsed any individual for the role.

Abdul Hadi stressed that claims portraying Muhyiddin as having secured approval to remain chairman were inaccurate. He reiterated that PAS continues to adhere to the resolution passed at its party congress, which maintains that the PN chairmanship should be held by a representative from PAS. According to him, the party’s position on the matter has not shifted and remains binding until a proper deliberative process takes place.

He further clarified that the absence of a confirmed chairman should not be interpreted as a sign of internal conflict within PN. Instead, he attributed the delay to administrative and organisational processes that must be completed before any leadership decision can be formalised. He indicated that such matters require careful coordination among coalition partners rather than rushed conclusions based on speculation.

Abdul Hadi expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved within one to two weeks, noting that PN is currently focused on internal consolidation and strategic planning ahead of the 16th General Election (PRU16). He suggested that leadership arrangements would be finalised in line with the coalition’s broader preparations for the electoral contest.

The clarification comes amid heightened political chatter about PN’s future direction and leadership structure, particularly following recent developments involving senior coalition figures. PAS’s firm response signals its intention to safeguard its influence within PN and ensure that key leadership decisions reflect the party’s agreed principles and internal mandates.
