MUAR – Pas has openly revealed that its strategy for the Johor state election is to ensure the state government continues to be led by Malay leaders.
Its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party is prepared to support and strengthen the state government to preserve Malay-Muslim leadership in Johor.
"If Barisan Nasional (BN) wins in Johor, Umno will appoint the Menteri Besar and it is up to them to decide who they want to appoint as state executive councillors.
"If there are weaknesses, Pas can help address them, but it depends on the number of seats Pas wins.
"If BN fails to secure a simple majority or does not have enough seats to form the state government, Pas seats can be combined with BN's to help establish the state government," he said at a press conference after the PN-Pas Grand Finale at Laman Muafakat, Bakri, on Wednesday.
Hadi said Pas also has no issue supporting MIC and MCA, provided it does not affect the position of a state government led by Malays.
"What matters is that political power remains in the hands of the Malay-Muslim leadership, together with non-Muslims who are not extremists, such as MCA and MIC.
"However, if BN has enough seats on its own, Pas has no issue with that," he said.
