KOTA BHARU - Pas Youth Council has called for the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations of a "corporate mafia" network with links to political figures and enforcement officials.
Moving the motion at the muktamar, Pas Youth Council delegate Muhammad Nazrul Hakim Md Nazir said the allegations, first raised in an international report in February 2026, involved a network of businessmen said to have connections with senior political leaders and enforcement officials attempting to gain control of a company.
"This is what we call the corporate mafia that is allegedly operating and existing in our country without us knowing," said during the 72nd Pas Muktamar at Pusat Tarbiah Islam Kelantan (Putik) in Pengkalan Chepa, here, today.
Nazrul argued that if Tabung Haji could be subjected to an RCI in the name of good governance, the same standard should apply to allegations involving individuals with links to the highest levels of government and enforcement.
"If Tabung Haji can have an RCI, why can't this alleged corporate mafia issue also have an RCI?" he asked.
He noted that police had said the authorities may not be involved, but argued this was insufficient given allegations that enforcement bodies may themselves have played a role.
"No businessman should be too wealthy or too powerful to be investigated. If there is truly nothing to hide, then there should be no reason to be afraid of an RCI," he said.
The motion calls for the government to immediately establish an RCI to independently investigate the alleged corporate mafia network, examine relationships between corporate players, Members of Parliament, political figures, government officials and enforcement institutions.
It also called for the government to investigate any flow of money, institutional pressure or use of political influence linked to control of companies and strategic national assets and make all findings public, with action taken regardless of the individuals involved.
Pas Bangi delegate Muhammad Afiq Mohd Khazar backed the motion, framing the issue as a question of who controls the country's economic interests and influences government decisions.
"We do not want to punish anyone before they are proven guilty, but at the same time, we cannot allow anyone to become so powerful that they are beyond investigation," he said.
He said Bangi did not want to turn the issue into a racial one, but insisted that the transparency demanded of one institution, a reference to Tabung Haji, must be demanded of all.
"There must be no double standards when it comes to integrity. There must be no selective prosecution and no one should be untouchable simply because they have connections to the centres of power," he said.
Afiq also questioned why allegations involving networks linked to power appeared to have gone quiet.
"If the government truly upholds reform, then prove it through an investigation and if the government truly has nothing to hide, then it should have nothing to fear from an RCI," he said.
