A woman died and 13 people sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle collision at an intersection in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture on Monday.
The collision occurred at around 9am local time and involved at least four vehicles, including a tour bus, in Fujisawa, 48km from the capital Tokyo.
The 77-year-old woman who died was a passenger in the car that reportedly caused the incident.
A 77-year-old man was driving the car, police said.
Authorities suspect the passenger car hit multiple cars head-on before entering the intersection where it collided with the tour bus. Police said they had launched an investigation into the accident.
At least 11 passengers on the tour bus, mostly between the ages of 60 and 80, were among the injured, the city's fire department said.
The incident took place hours after an elderly woman was killed by a passenger car leaving the parking lot of a convenience store in Asakura City on Sunday.
Last month, three people were killed after a truck and a passenger car collided in Chiba prefecture, near Tokyo, police said.
A passerby called emergency services at 4am local time on 29 September to report that a truck and a passenger car were ablaze at an intersection in Chiba City.
Firefighters, upon arrival, found that a truck and a car had collided and the car was on fire. They later confirmed that at least three people in the passenger car had been killed.
