RANAU: A 47-year-old woman died after the four-wheel-drive vehicle she was travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a river at Kampung Nalapak here Sunday.
The victim was trapped inside the Isuzu D-Max and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Health Ministry (MOH).
Ranau Fire and Rescue Station chief Rantey Fred said the station received an emergency call at 12.45pm before seven personnel and two fire engines were dispatched to the scene, about 20km away.
He said the team arrived at about 1.14pm and found the four-wheel-drive vehicle had apparently veered off the road and ended up in the river, with the woman still inside.
“Firemen removed the victim from the vehicle before administering initial treatment.
“However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by MOH medical personnel,” he said in a statement today.
Rantey said the victim was subsequently handed over to police for further action.
He said the operation was fully concluded at 2.14pm after the fire and rescue team ensured the scene was safe.
