Patiala girl Ena Arora continues to make her district and state proud with back to back performances in the field of fencing. Two days ago Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann honoured her with the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award in the field of fencing.

Arora is an international fencing champion from Punjab, who competes in the Épée event. She works as an excise and taxation inspector for the Government of Punjab. She started with fencing in 2008 and has never looked back ever since, performing brilliantly in the sport.

“Fencing consists of three events. Though I started with the ‘foil’ event and then shifted to the ‘epee’ event. Behind my medals is sheer hard work and dedication put in by my parents and teachers. Further the role played by my coaches, physiotherapist and the Department of Excise and Taxation for their support is something that has always backed me to achieve more”, says the young fencer.

In 2015, she had won a silver medal in the epee women’s team event at the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championship at South Africa making it a stepping stone for the rest of her fencing journey. Her highest achievements include being quarter finalist twice in the Asian Games 2018 and 2022-3 and gold medalist at the South Asian Games.

She has attended multiple national and international camps thus making her an experienced fencer. She’s traveled the world for sport while keeping balance with her studies. She is currently posted as excise and taxation inspector for which she had cleared the recruitment exam. She attends her official duties every day and balances her sports training alongside.

Earlier last year Arora won the first-ever fencing medal for Punjab at the 38th edition of the National Games in Uttarakhand. She secured a silver medal in the individual Women’s Epee event being held in Haldwani from February 8 to 13.

“I have always backed my daughters to do what makes them happy. When Ena asked me that she loves fencing and would want to take it up as a career, I ensured I can provide her with the best of facilities and backing. She has made us all proud”, said her father Anil Arora, a chartered accountant based out of Patiala.
