Payments via MyKad urged for supermarkets

PENAMPANG: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) urged more businesses and supermarkets to implement payment acceptance using the MyKad system.

Its Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said this approach would make it easier for the public to use the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) initiative, which is credited directly into recipients’ MyKad.

Advertisement“As recently announced by the Ministry of Finance, the implementation of the Sara programme will be expanded using the same system in Sabah and Sarawak starting this year.

“Previously, the initiative in these two states was distributed in cash, and sometimes, it took months for recipients to receive the aid.

Read more “However, beginning this year, the government is involving supermarkets and other business premises in Sabah and Sarawak to allow the aid to be used through the MyKad payment system.

“Consumers can simply bring their MyKad to supermarkets to make payments and check their remaining balance. We believe this method is much more convenient for users,” he said.

AdvertisementArmizan made these remarks during a media interview after officiating the Program Jualan Rahmah Madani (PJRM) Back to School 2025, held in conjunction with the school holiday season at ITCC Shopping Mall, here, Monday.

Also present was the Sabah Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Shahril Nizam Shahidan.

AdvertisementAdditionally, Armizan said that the government has allocated nearly RM13 billion for the year 2025 for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sara initiatives as part of efforts to help citizens cope with rising living costs.
