RANAU: Acting President of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, stressed that the party will continue to strengthen cooperation with local parties in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to demand the rights of the State.
He said the move is in line with the political model in Sarawak where local parties united under a strong coalition, namely, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“We always hear netizens say Sabah needs to emulate Sarawak that are united under Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
“This is what Sabah is trying to do. We are joining forces with local parties to demand the rights of Sabah even though there are parties that do not contribute seats.” Dr Joachim said this when officiating the annual general meeting of the three PBS divisions, namely Kundasang, Karanaan and Paginatan at the Ranau Chinese Temple Hall, here, last Saturday.
He stressed that over the past five years, PBS is grateful to be able to work with other parties that share the same objectives and goals in fighting for justice and the interests of the Sabah region.
Commenting on the perception that PBS wants to work alone, Dr Joachim stressed that the party has now chosen to work closely with GRS.
“Yes, PBS used to rule solo. However, the situation now is very different. PBS will work with all local parties in GRS.
“It is better for us to unite than to be divided. Division only harms,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation and congratulated the organising committee and the three divisions involved who will send delegates to the upcoming PBS congress.
According to him, GRS has the potential to become a dominant coalition in Sabah and if given a mandate again, it can increase state revenue and strengthen development for the well-being of the people.
Dr Joachim welcomed friends from the coalition parties who were present as observers, including the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister who is also the Head of the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah) Paginatan Dun, Datuk Abidin Madingkir; Head of the PGRS Division of Paginatan Datuk Amisah Yassin and Head of the PGRS Division of Kundasang Johari @Joe Haji Suhaimin.
