THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City local government unit (LGU) joined forces on Sunday to distribute relief assistance to nearly 2,000 families displaced by the fire that hit a residential area in Brgy. Pinyahan, Quezon City, late Friday night.
In a statement, the PCSO said 2,000 “Charitimba” or charity buckets containing food and other essential supplies, and modular tents, were distributed at Quezon City Hall’s Risen Garden.
The distribution was led by PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles, with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III.
“Our teams worked closely with the local government to help ensure that immediate assistance reached the affected families,” Robles said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the MMDA also provided modular evacuation tents as temporary shelters for the families displaced by the blaze.
“The MMDA remains ready to assist local governments during emergencies. Through our coordination with Quezon City and PCSO, we hope to provide temporary shelter and support for families while other relief efforts continue,” Torre said.
In all, according to the PCSO’s statement, the goods were distributed to 1,907 families staying in evacuation centers in Flora Ylagan High School, Pinyahan Covered Court, San Isidro Labrador Parish, NIA Covered Court, Pinyahan Elementary School, NHA Balik-Probinsiya Covered Court, and the National Power Corp. (Napocor).
