KUALA TERENGGANU - The investigation into a rape case involving a disabled (OKU) woman in this state is still ongoing and is currently in its final stages of completion before being submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP).
Terengganu police chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin, stated that all five Myanmar national suspects who were detained remain under a remand order until Aug 30 to assist with investigations.
"Initially, we conducted the investigation as a rape case,however, the suspects were re-arrested under the Immigration Act over concerns that they might fail to report themselves if released on bail.
"We expect this investigation paper to be completed and submitted to the DPP for further action and instruction in the near future or within this week before the remand period expires. As of now, no new arrests have been made," he said.
He said this when met at a contribution presentation ceremony for chronic patients, welfare homes, and the Terengganu contingent Perkep in conjunction with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) 'charity ride' convoy charity program with the Ipoh Superbike Club here on Wednesday.
Previously, PDRM detained five Myanmar national men following a sexual assault case against a 23-year-old intellectually disabled woman in Kemaman, Terengganu.
Three initial suspects of Rohingya ethnicity were detained in early August and their remand period was subsequently extended, while two more Myanmar men were detained to assist in further investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
