LONDON - Pele's shirt from the 1958 World Cup final has sold for US$4.9 million at an auction held by Sotheby’s in New York, reported PA Media/dpa.
The number 10 shirt was worn by the then 17-year-old during Brazil's 5-2 win over Sweden, during which Pele became the youngest player to score in a World Cup final - a record that still stands.
Sotheby's said the sale made Pele's jersey the second most valuable football shirt ever sold after Diego Maradona's 1986 top, worn against England when he scored his famous "Hand of God" goal.
It sold in 2022 for US$9.3 million. - BERNAMA
