Penang opposition leader Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff was rushed to hospital after a sudden spike in high blood pressure at the state assembly building.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang opposition leader Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff was rushed to Penang Hospital (HPP) after suddenly experiencing high blood pressure at the State Legislative Assembly building here today.

Pinang Tunggal state assemblyman Bukhori Ghazali said Muhammad Fauzi, who is also the Sungai Dua assemblyman, reportedly experienced slight discomfort during the lunch break.

“While resting during the break, he felt unwell and went to see the medical officer on duty for an examination.

“His blood pressure was higher than the normal level, so he was sent to HPP for further examination and monitoring,” he told reporters at the State Legislative Assembly building.

Bukhori said Muhammad Fauzi did not faint or experience serious symptoms, but under standard operating procedures, he had to be sent to hospital for his safety.

“He told me that he did not want to be admitted because he wanted to return to hear the Chief Minister (Chow Kon Yeow) deliver his winding-up speech,” he said.

Muhammad Fauzi was fine during the morning session of the state assembly sitting.
