SENIOR leaders of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) have yet to state an official position following claims that a group of Perlis state assembly members submitted statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, signalling a loss of confidence in Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
The alleged move, said to involve statutory declarations asserting the withdrawal of support for Mohd Shukri’s leadership, has intensified political attention and fuelled speculation over the stability of the Perlis state administration.
Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he was unable to comment substantively on the matter as he had not received complete information from relevant parties.
“So far, I have only received information from the media,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian to comment on Bersatu’s official stance on the issue, including allegations of efforts to change the leadership of the Perlis Menteri Besar, Mohd Shukri Ramli.
Attempts to obtain clarification from PAS leaders have so far been unsuccessful, with several figures contacted, including PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, not responding at the time of reporting.
Earlier media reports claimed that five Bersatu assembly members and three from PAS had submitted statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis indicating a loss of confidence in Mohd Shukri’s leadership.
Despite the claims, no official statement has been issued by Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders on the development, including confirmation of whether the statutory declarations were submitted or what steps, if any, would be taken to safeguard the stability of the Perlis state government.
The situation has prompted widespread political conjecture about the standing of the state leadership, although the allegations remain unverified by any authoritative source.
Separately, PAS Perlis commissioner Ahmad Ali was reported last Friday as urging all PAS members in the state to give their unequivocal support to Mohd Shukri as Menteri Besar.
In a related development, Mohd Shukri was reported to have undergone further medical checks at hospital after complaining of chest pain. He is understood to be in a stable condition.
For now, the political landscape in Perlis remains unchanged, with attention focused on whether Bersatu, PAS or Perikatan Nasional will issue an official statement to clarify the situation and outline the future direction of the state administration. - December 23, 2025
