The comedian, 53, suddenly walked in front of the camera during Molly Brewer’s broadcast.
The presenter was explaining that a yellow weather warning was in force for the following day when the Phoenix Nights star appeared on screen.
Kay, who had been a guest on the programme, sat down and said: “Go on Molly, I’ll sit here, I’ll not disturb you.”
Brewer carried on with her report, trying to contain her laughter. She gave Kay her clicker so he could change the on-screen graphics.
Kay previously interrupted the late Dianne Oxberry’s report as she was presenting the forecast for BBC North West Tonight in 2011.
