By the end of September, Malaysians will get to experience the 6 sen reduction in RON95 fuel price, which will be set at RM1.99 per litre, from the previous RM2.05 price.

The long-awaited good news was announced during Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s special announcement, which the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, didn’t think was good enough.

According to Tun Faisal, Malaysians could enjoy much lower fuel prices when Perikatan Nasional was in government.

“The price of RON95 was reduced from RM2.08 to RM1.25 per litre in April 2020, while diesel was reduced from RM2.18 to RM1.43 per litre.”

Tun Faisal said that the OPR was also lowered from 3.00 to 1.75 per cent, the lowest rate in history, thus making loans cheaper and reducing the burden of loan repayments.

He added that the PN administration at that time had also given electricity bill discounts of 10 to 50 per cent to domestic consumers and affected sectors from March to December 2020, involving subsidies exceeding RM1 billion.

Tun Faisal added that when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the PM, his government took tangible steps that had a direct impact on the people, especially regarding the reduction in oil prices, the overnight policy rate (OPR), and the cost of living.

PMX’s special announcement also included a one-off RM100 cash aid, which Tun Faisal dubbed “nothing special” and is not helpful in the long run.

He also mentioned that when Muhyiddin was PM, partial EPF withdrawals were allowed, unlike today, in which the OPR was only reduced once, after maintaining above 3% for more than a year, according to his Facebook post.

Tun Faisal also mentioned that the media today are being used as a propaganda tool to praise PMX exaggeratedly, especially after his announcement.

What do you think of these comparisons?
