PH: High-profile corruption cases must uphold public confidence

PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has called for decisions involving high-profile corruption cases to uphold public confidence in the Government’s reform agenda, while stressing that ongoing judicial proceedings must be allowed to run their course independently.

In a recent statement released by PH secretariat, the coalition said individuals convicted of corruption or abuse of power, particularly in high-profile cases, should serve the full sentences imposed by the courts.

At the same time, PH said ongoing judicial proceedings must be given room to conclude fairly and independently, without creating any perception that they had been influenced by considerations outside the legal process.

The coalition said this was important as Malaysia remained in a phase of institutional recovery aimed at strengthening governance and restoring public confidence in national institutions.

It also said previous high-profile corruption cases had significantly affected Malaysia’s reputation internationally, adding that the momentum to rebuild confidence in the country’s institutions and its ability to combat corruption and abuse of power must be maintained.

PH said it remained committed to the reform agenda and to upholding the Federal Constitution, respecting national institutions, the rule of law and efforts to combat corruption. - September 9, 2026
