PAKATAN Harapan (PH) emerged as the biggest winner in terms of the popular vote at the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, securing 256,386 votes, equivalent to 40.2 per cent of all ballots cast.
According to official data published by electiondata.my, Barisan Nasional (BN) came second with 227,067 votes, or 35.6 per cent, leaving it 29,319 votes behind PH.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured 130,407 votes, representing 20.4 per cent of the total votes cast.
Among the smaller parties, Bersatu obtained 16,757 votes (2.6 per cent), followed by Berjasa with 5,844 votes (0.9 per cent). Independent candidates collected 1,337 votes, while Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (ASLI) received 400 and 179 votes respectively.
The results confirm that PH attracted the largest share of the popular vote, improving its performance from 37.8 per cent at the previous Negeri Sembilan state election.
However, the coalition was unable to retain the state government because Malaysia's first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system determines the outcome based on the number of constituencies won rather than the overall share of the popular vote.
The BN–PN electoral cooperation secured enough state assembly seats to form the new Negeri Sembilan government despite receiving fewer votes overall than PH.
Reacting to the outcome, PH acknowledged the result and pledged to continue strengthening its grassroots support.
