Kota Kinabalu: Borneo Development Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (BDC Sabah) is continuing efforts to support Sabah’s industrial and commercial growth with the launch of its Phase 2 of BDC Industrial Centre in Putatan.
Its Chairman Datuk Johnny Mositun said the development was a continuation of Phase 1 comprising 25 units of warehouses buildings, which formed part of the corporation’s initiatives to support the state’s industrial and commercial sectors.
He said Phase 2 offers five detached industrial warehouse facilities designed to meet the operational needs of various businesses while supporting their growth and expansion.
“Construction began in August and is expected to be completed by December, 2027, with three of the five units already booked, reflecting demand for warehouse facilities in the area.
“This latest development would utilise the remaining land at the site to expand the BDC’s industrial property offerings. The site, which includes the 25 warehouses developed under Phase 1, spans over five-acre of land owned by BDC. As for the Phase 2 project, it covers 1.3-acre, with each warehouse is measured to have between 7,000 and 8,000 square feet,” he said.
Johnny said this in a press conference after he did the ground-breaking and launching of the Phase 2 of BDC Industrial Centre, here on Oct 21, 2026.
Also present were BDC Sabah General Manager Patrick Chung Tat Sang, his Deputy General Manager Ruzalie bin Ruhimin, several Board of Directors namely Datuk Gregory Joitol, and Yazarudin Shah Yunos, and other officials.
“With its contemporary design, high-quality construction and spacious, practical layout, the development is expected to meet the operational needs of various types of businesses.
“The warehouse could accommodate various business activities, including storage, food processing and forwarding, depending on the needs of the operators,” he said, while encouraging smallholders of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs) to consider purchasing the warehouses, as the area has been approved for commercial use.
Johnny said the project’s strategic location near Putatan town, with convenient access to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and Kota Kinabalu city, are among its key advantages.
He said the location and facilities would provide added value to business operators requiring practical operational space and convenient access for logistics and commercial activities.
“I am confident that this development will further strengthen BDC Sabah’s role in delivering quality industrial property developments that meet current market needs,” he said.
On BDC’s future development plans, Johnny said the corporation hoped to undertake more projects on its land, although further details could not be disclosed at this stage.
He said future developments would depend partly on financial support from the State government, which would enable BDC to implement its plans and expand its property development activities.
“We hope the State government will provide funding and lands for BDC’s development projects. With sufficient funds, we can move forward with our plans in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
Johnny hoped that the development would proceed smoothly and achieve its planned objectives.
