Kuala Lumpur: Senator Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, as Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Chairman, raised plans to improve Kota Kinabalu’s Pink Bus services, pursue the programme’s second phase and upgrade Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan airports.
“The CVLB board is continuously reviewing the eight existing Pink Bus routes, taking into consideration passenger demand, population distribution and urban development patterns.
“These improvements would help enhance connectivity between residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres, healthcare facilities and other public amenities.
“Public transport must evolve according to the needs of the people. Our priority is to make the existing services more accessible, reliable and convenient, while ensuring that route planning reflects how our communities live, work and travel,” he said.
He hoped the Ministry of Transport would consider extending the Pink Bus programme to other parts of Sabah where public transport remains inadequate.
“The development of public transport should not be limited to Kota Kinabalu alone. We hope to progressively extend the benefits of affordable and accessible bus services to more communities across Sabah,” he said.
“I also strongly welcome the Federal Government’s decision to include Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan airports in the RM1.1 billion upgrading programme under the Budget 2027,” he said.
He hoped these projects are implemented according to clear timelines, without unnecessary delays.
