Piers Morgan has called on Barron Trump to step in if his father ends up playing an unexpected role in the 2026 World Cup trophy ceremony.
There have been reports suggesting Donald Trump could present the trophy at the MetLife Stadium final, a break from tradition that has already sparked debate.
While Morgan laughed off the idea at first, he admitted that Trump’s involvement could quickly become a talking point for all the wrong reasons.

Piers Morgan hopes Barron Trump can prevent awkward World Cup moment
Speaking to talkSPORT, Piers Morgan was reacting to reports that FIFA may allow Donald Trump to take on a prominent role during the World Cup trophy presentation.
Discussing a possible England win, he joked about how the scene could unfold if Harry Kane was waiting to lift the trophy.
“I think it will be hugely popular if England were to win the trophy, if Trump wrestled the World Cup off Harry Kane and began to do a little conga. I think everyone in England would share my view that that would be absolutely magnificent! No! I think it’s got the potential to be quite embarrassing.”
Morgan also suggested Trump is likely aware of the reaction generated by his Club World Cup trophy presentation appearance.
“I think that Trump is quite savvy about the reaction to what happened with the Club World Cup championship.”
Morgan points to Barron Trump’s football knowledge
Morgan then highlighted Barron Trump’s interest in football while discussing how Donald Trump could avoid an awkward moment.
“If he’s not, his son Barron loves football. He’s actually an Arsenal fan. I think he will quietly have a word with the old man and say, ‘Look, Dad, should you get the trophy anywhere near you, don’t try and grab it!’”
Trump’s involvement in the Club World Cup trophy presentation already raised attention after he remained on stage as Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy.
Reports have suggested FIFA would have no objection to Trump presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning captain if he attends the final at MetLife Stadium.
