KOTA KINABALU: Residents of six villages in Pintasan, who have waited over 40 years for land grants, are finally seeing progress, according to Pintasan Assemblyman Datuk Fairuz Renddan.
He stated that since taking office in 2020, he has focused on resolving the issue, which involved village lands being classified as reserved land, making it difficult for residents to obtain official grants.
"A special committee was formed to review procedures and work with authorities to ensure the grants could be issued," Fairuz said in a press conference on Monday.
He added that from 2020 to 2022, efforts led to the reclassification of land in the six villages.
By the end of 2023 and early 2024, nearly 400 land grants had been distributed, with the remaining grants expected to be issued by May or June this year.
Fairuz also highlighted similar land ownership issues affecting Kadazan, Dusun, and Murut (KDM) communities, where lands long occupied by locals were later registered under government-linked companies (GLCs) and private individuals.
