
NATIONAL squash star S. Sivasangari struck gold when she emerged champion of the 2026 Australian Open Squash Championship held in Brisbane, Australia.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, expressed his congratulations and well wishes to the country's number one player for her outstanding success.
According to him, the success not only made the sports world proud of the country, but also proved the determination, discipline and high fighting spirit possessed by the national athlete in making Malaysia famous on the international stage.
"Hopefully, this achievement will inspire the younger generation to continue to achieve success and elevate the prestige of national sports to a more glorious level," he said in a statement.
Sivasangari's success adds to the collection of excellent achievements of Malaysian squash on the world stage.
Her win ended her 13-month title drought. She last won the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in February last year.
It was also her second gold-level title after winning the London Classic in 2024. – March 16, 2026
