KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has wished the national contingent all the best as they gear up for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The quadrennial Games will officially get underway with the opening ceremony at The Hydro yesterday (3am today Malaysian time).

In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed hope that the national athletes would compete with determination while upholding the values of discipline, integrity and sportsmanship throughout the Games.

“Compete with the highest spirit, uphold the values of discipline, integrity and sportsmanship because the most meaningful victory is one achieved by giving your very best with honesty and dignity,” he said.

He also prayed that the national contingent’s efforts would be facilitated, that they would be blessed with success worthy of national pride, and bring glory to Malaysia on the world stage.

The 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games is being held at four main venues within a 12.8-kilometre radius of the city centre, namely Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow Arena and the Scottish Event Campus.

Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the second time, having first staged the event in 2014. — Bernama
