MANILA, Philippines —  In response to rising fuel prices, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup) has expanded its bicycle patrol operations across airports nationwide.

According to Avsegroup, this shift from motorized vehicles to bicycles allows the unit to maintain high police visibility while significantly reducing fuel consumption and operational costs.

While a traditional method, bicycle patrols offer a practical and eco-friendly solution to airport security.

Beyond cost efficiency, the initiative also promotes the physical fitness of personnel.

The initiative was revisited and activated on April 10 this year, under the leadership of Avsegroup director PBGen. Dionisio Bartolome Jr., the program emphasizes adaptability.

"There is no harm in exploring cost effective ways to sustain our patrol operations while continuing to preserve peace and security in our airports. At the same time, we also contribute to energy conservation as we face this crisis together as a nation," Bartolome said.
