KOTA KINABALU, Sept 12 — Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his mother at a rented house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, yesterday.

Keningau district police chief Supt Erwansyah Abdul Basir said police were alerted to the incident involving the 56-year-old victim at about 2pm and subsequently tracked down the suspect.

He said preliminary investigations found that the victim died at the scene from injuries believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.

“Villagers apprehended the suspect at a hut in Kampung Sutung, Tambunan, before handing him over to police.

“The suspect was taken to the Tambunan police station, where he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department team from the Keningau district police headquarters,” he said in a statement today.

Erwansyah said the investigation team and forensic personnel had inspected the scene and seized several items believed to be linked to the case.

He said the victim’s body had been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination and the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“The public is urged not to speculate or spread unverified information about the case,” he said. — Bernama
