High-speed 50km chase from Kota Tinggi to Ulu Tiram ends in arrest of two men wanted for narcotics offences. Drugs seized, suspects test positive for meth.
JOHOR BAHRU: Police arrested two men after a 50-kilometre (km) high-speed chase involving members of the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters here early today.
Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman said the incident occurred at about 12.35 am when the MPV personnel ordered a Proton Wira to stop at Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, Bandar Kota Tinggi.
“However, the suspects sped off, driving recklessly.
“A high-speed chase ensued for about 50km, from Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, Bandar Kota Tinggi towards Ulu Tiram before ending at KM31.5 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing, near the Taman Sri Saujana traffic lights in Kota Tinggi,” he said in a statement today.
He said swift action by the MPV personnel resulted in the vehicle being stopped and the arrest of two men, aged 33 and 44.
Yusof said further checks on the two suspects and the vehicle they were travelling in led to the discovery of drugs believed to be methamphetamine.
He said checks on their records also found that both suspects have previous narcotics offences and are wanted by police under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He added that both suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.
“The two suspects have been remanded for four days until Sept 15 to assist in investigations.
“The case is being investigated under Sections 15(1)(a) and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 186 of the Penal Code,” he said.
