National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Officer-in-Charge BGen. Christopher Abrahano has directed all police units in Metro Manila to further intensify their campaign against illegal drugs after the killing of two alleged drug personalities in Tondo, Manila.
The two fatalities were shot dead by still-unidentified gunmen inside a house in Barangay 194, Tondo, early Friday morning. According to barangay officials, the house had allegedly been used as a drug den. The Manila Police District is conducting follow-up investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings.
Abrahano directed the five police districts under the NCRPO to strengthen intelligence gathering, target drug personalities and distribution networks, and intensify lawful anti-illegal drug operations in areas identified as vulnerable to drug-related activities.
“We cannot allow illegal drugs to continue destroying our communities. I have directed our police units to intensify our operations, strengthen our intelligence gathering, and go after those who are behind the illegal drug trade,” Abrahano said in a statement on Sunday.
He emphasized that the NCRPO’s response to the illegal drug problem must be sustained, intelligence-driven, and conducted strictly within the bounds of law and established police procedures.
“The recent incident in Tondo is a reminder that illegal drugs remain a serious threat to our communities. Our job is to prevent these threats from escalating by identifying drug activities early, disrupting the supply of illegal drugs, and bringing those responsible before the law,” Abrahano said.
The NCRPO’s intensified campaign is producing significant results. Over the past 24 hours, NCRPO units conducted 28 anti-illegal drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 32 individuals and the seizure of more than P750,000 worth of illegal drugs.
Abrahano said these accomplishments demonstrate the importance of sustained police operations and close coordination among police units in addressing illegal drug activities across Metro Manila.
“Our campaign will not stop. We will continue to pursue drug personalities, suppliers, and other individuals involved in this illegal trade. At the same time, we will make sure that every operation is properly conducted, evidence-based, and compliant with the law,” he said.
Abrahano called on all police commanders to remain proactive and ensure that their personnel are responsive to reports of illegal drug activities in their respective areas.
“I expect every police unit to be proactive. Do not wait for illegal drug activities to become bigger problems before we act. Strengthen your intelligence, coordinate with our partners, and take appropriate action against those involved,” he said.
The NCRPO chief likewise reiterated that the campaign against illegal drugs is not limited to arrest and seizure figures but is ultimately aimed at protecting communities from the violence, crime, and social harm associated with the illegal drug trade.
