MELAKA: Police are actively tracking down the driver of a Proton Saga believed to have caused a major six-vehicle collision in Melaka Tengah this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 9.51am when the Proton Saga, reportedly owned by a foreign national, lost control while travelling from Malim and veered into the opposite lane.

It first collided with a Mercedes-Benz heading towards Bandar Melaka before spinning and hitting several other vehicles.

The subsequent chain-reaction crash involved a Toyota Vios, a Perodua Bezza, a Nissan van and a Toyota Camry, bringing the total to six vehicles.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat confirmed the driver was not at the scene and has yet to be identified.

In the incident, the 63-year-old driver and a 32-year-old passenger of the Toyota Vios sustained injuries to the head, eyes and left leg.

Both victims received initial treatment at Melaka Hospital before being transferred to Mahkota Hospital for further care.

Police are tracing the missing driver by checking vehicle ownership records, identifying witnesses and obtaining CCTV and dashcam footage from the area.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact investigating officer Sergeant Ikhram Azmi at 011-26559539 or visit the nearest police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
