KOTA BHARU - Kelantan police are hunting a man identified as the former boyfriend of a woman who had been married for just three days, as investigations into the discovery of a five-month fetus buried beside a house in Kuala Krai continue to widen.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the man had been identified and would be detained to assist investigations.
He said police were also looking into whether the fetus had died in the womb or after birth.
"He has been identified. We will arrest him," he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
Earlier, a 30-year-old woman, who had only been married for three days, was remanded for four days to assist investigations into the discovery of the five-month fetus, believed to have been buried beside a house in the area in 2024.
The remand order was issued by magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Nik Azlan at the Pasir Puteh magistrate's court on Monday.
Her former husband, 32, a construction worker, was also remanded but has since been released on police bail.
Police had earlier received a report on the discovery of the fetus, which was found buried beside a house at Rancangan Pemulihan Tanah Batu Mengkebang.
The fetus was believed to be the result of an illicit relationship between the woman and her ex-boyfriend following her divorce.
Yusoff made the remarks during the 219th Police Day celebration and the Flag Off Programme in conjunction with National Month and the Jalur Gemilang-Flying Month 2026 at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters.
Also present were Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad and Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin.
