
Kapurthala district police registered multiple criminal cases on Friday, including incidents of snatching, theft, road accident, narcotics-related offences and illegal possession of a firearm, while several accused were arrested during police action carried out across different police station jurisdictions.
In Phagwara city, an elderly woman was allegedly robbed of her gold earrings by an unidentified youth. According to the complaint lodged by 75-year-old Swaranjit Kaur of Khalwara Gate, she was sitting outside her son’s office on the evening of May 27 when a young man approached from behind and forcibly snatched the gold earrings from both her ears before fleeing. City Phagwara Police registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage related to the incident has been linked with the FIR.
In another case registered at Sultanpur Lodhi Police Station, three residents of Kamalpur Mothanwal village were booked for allegedly stealing wheat stored in drums inside a haveli. The complaint was filed by Kulbir Singh, who alleged that the accused removed the wheat from his property on May 25. Police arrested two of the three accused and initiated further investigation.
Meanwhile, Sadar Phagwara Police registered a case in connection with a road accident that occurred near Bhularai Cut on May 18. Rahul Kumar of Akalgarh village alleged that a speeding car driven negligently hit his motorcycle while he was attempting to cross the road, causing him serious injuries and damaging the vehicle. He was shifted to Civil Hospital, Phagwara, after passers-by alerted emergency services. Police have booked the car driver and started legal proceedings.
Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Rawalpindi Police Station arrested two persons identified as Kashmir Singh alias Sheera and Mandeep Kumar after allegedly recovering 42 intoxicating tablets from their possession during a patrol operation near a highway point. The recovered tablets were seized and a case was registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
In a separate NDPS-related case, City Phagwara police registered a case against Sanjeev Malik of Phagwara for allegedly consuming heroin near the old Civil Hospital area. Police recovered items associated with drug consumption and initiated legal action under the NDPS Act. Further, Subhanpur Police arrested a youth identified as Karanbir Singh after allegedly recovering an unlicensed .32 bore country-made pistol along with two live cartridges during a naka and patrol operation.
The accused failed to produce any valid licence for the weapon, following which a case was registered under the Arms Act and the weapon was seized. Police officials said investigations are underway in all the cases and further action will be taken as per law.
