PENAMPANG: Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding a viral video allegedly showing an act of vandalism involving cables in a village here.

District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the report was lodged on Monday following the circulation of several short clips on a Facebook community page the same day.

The video shows a man pulling at a cable, believed to be a deliberate act of sabotage.

The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Sammy urged the public to channel any information related to the incident to Inspector Mohd Anis Abdullah at 013-6365734.

He also advised the public against spreading unverified or false claims on social media as it could disrupt investigations and cause unnecessary panic.
