A MAN believed to be involved in criminal activities was shot dead by police during an exchange of gunfire along Batu 8, Jalan Banting–Dengkil in Selangor last night.

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), Datuk M Kumar, said a team from the JSJ Bukit Aman Serious Crimes Division (D9) encountered a Perodua Myvi driven by a lone male behaving suspiciously at about 8.10pm in the Dengkil area.

The officers were conducting an operation aimed at detecting and preventing armed robbery across Banting, Dengkil and Sepang.

“When the team attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect suddenly opened fire from inside the car towards the police. Officers returned fire until the threat was neutralised.

“The suspect was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Initial investigations indicate he is believed to be a local man, although no identification documents were found,” he said in a statement.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a Colt .45 firearm, three rounds of ammunition and seven transparent plastic packets suspected to contain drugs.

Kumar said further investigations are ongoing. - November 25, 2025
