BAGAN SERAI, Sept 8 — Police will record statements from six hikers in the Trans Gerah Expedition at Gunung Gerah, Kelantan, who were found safe yesterday after being reported missing during the hiking trip.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the six hikers would be taken to the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD) for documentation after being brought out from Pos Kemar.

“They will all be allowed to return home after the documentation process is completed. They are also reported to be in good health,” he said at a press conference at the Kerian IPD here today.

Asked whether the couple had committed an offence by bringing their two children on the hiking trip, Mohd Alwi said all four had valid permits.

“There was no issue (with the couple bringing their children along) as the permit included details of their family members,” he said.

Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39, his wife Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39, and their two children, Diya Raisha, 13, and Ahmad Raef, 9, together with mountain guides Shafiee Sidek, 49, and Hazman Mamat, 43, were found safe last night before being taken to the Pos Kemar Health Clinic for medical examinations.

The search and rescue (SAR) team and the victims left Pos Kemar at 8.30am today and arrived at Trojan Jetty, Tasik Banding, at 10.20am before proceeding to the Gerik IPD.

The six began their hike on August 29 and were due to emerge from the forest on September 3.

A report was lodged by their family members on Sunday after they failed to return as scheduled. — Bernama
