Toronto police have arrested two men from Germany “associated with a Bosnian fan group” during Canada’s World Cup 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday.

A statement said that the two men in their 20s have been charged with "assault peace officer" and were to appear in court on Saturday.

Police said they were alerted to an altercation in the stands of the Toronto stadium during Friday's match and items were thrown at them when they attempted to eject a fan from the arena.

The situation was brought under control with the help of additional officers of which two suffered minor injuries while the two suspects were arrested.

The Toronto Police Association warned on X after the incident: “We’re glad you’re here to enjoy the World Cup but please do so safely.

“Never put your hands on a police officer. They will arrest you. You will be charged. Our holding cells do not have TVs. You will miss the game you came to enjoy.”
