ALOR SETAR, Aug 29 — Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari has called for a thorough investigation into the case of an 11-year-old girl who allegedly died from a heart condition after reportedly being made to take part in a sporting activity by a teacher.

He said the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) shared the grief and extended condolences to the parents and family of the late Nur Qaira Alisha Ahmad ‘Ilwan.

“I was informed that the education authorities had conducted an investigation into a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family regarding an incident that occurred on April 14 at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Pak Kiau.

“The matter must be investigated thoroughly, transparently and with integrity. No aspect related to the incident should be overlooked, and all parties concerned must be given the opportunity to provide their statements and explanations,” he said in a statement today.

The Sungai Petani MP said the deceased’s family deserved a proper, comprehensive and fact-based explanation of what had happened.

“If the investigation finds any negligence, breach of regulations or misconduct, appropriate action must be taken without compromise, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

“When it comes to the safety and welfare of pupils, we cannot take such matters lightly or compromise on any weaknesses identified,” he said.

Mohammed Taufiq also said the investigation process must be allowed to proceed fairly and professionally, without drawing any conclusions before all the facts had been established and examined.

“During this deeply painful time, let us give the deceased’s family the space and support they need. May they be granted the strength, patience and fortitude to face this tremendous ordeal,” he said.

Previously, a social media post by the victim’s father went viral, alleging that his daughter, who had a heart condition, was instructed by a teacher to take part in a running activity, despite a letter confirming her medical condition having been submitted. — Bernama
